Waiting for Callback: Take Two (Waiting for Callback #2)

Release Date: 26th January 2017

Elektra has finally landed a part in a film. It’s the dream. Well …until she works out that Straker is a movie so dystopian that within weeks most of the cast and all of the crew wish that the world had actually ended (preferably in scene one). And while it’s obviously great news that she’s moved from the friend-zone with Archie to become his almost-girlfriend, it would be better if he hadn’t immediately relocated to Transylvania to play a vampire hunter surrounded by ‘maidens of peerless beauty’.

My Review
“I’d never been called am ‘Artist’ before, mostly because I was poor at art, but I liked it.”- Elektra
I literally am on a happy book high right now. This being my most anticipated book of 2017 it certainly has a set a high standard for the year. For the entire year I’ve had to wait since finishing Waiting for Callback at the end of 2015. The smile and excitement when this came through my door was just sheer joy to have it in my hands. I think the bright cover and the wonderful signing my book too made my day or my weekend really. So it was no wonder that from the first to the last page I couldn’t stop the smiling, the giddiness and the laughter that came from every page.
Without going into too many spoilers, Take Two continues on from Elektra’s moment of fame, being cast as the main lead of Straker, (still a working title) dystopian action-packed, apocalyptic movie that is going to be the best movie of the year…apparently. Whilst she is beyond excited and her love life is officially on the cards, life as a celebrity isn’t as it sounds. Glam – nope, nadda, love-scenes – *cringe*, πŸ™ˆ dressing room – amaze-balls, being a heroine – hard and exhausting. Oh and Archie is on a film set with sexy vampire maidens in Transylvania, nothing to worry about of course. Life as a actress isn’t as it’s cracked up to be. What I loved was that Take Two didn’t distinguish from the reality of being a teenage actress, and teenager with real-life family.school and love life problems. That’s the beauty of these books – you just get so involved and carried away with the storyline that you yourself can’t help but believe in them. With the additional touch of the actor quotes at the start of each chapter it really does give you a feel, a perspective of the actressing world.

The star of the show Elektra James, is nothing but a character to love. She’s smart, funny, warm and just has the biggest heart much like her creators. This novel is meant to test her, to grow up and she does, living in the spotlight, you have too – but what I love is that she still keeps that innocence about her as a 16 year old girl. That’s what we lack in these time, teenagers grow up far too quickly whether they have to or it, life will be waiting for you in a couple of years time.

The best part for me is the relationships in the book, between Elektra and her mum, immediately as you start the book she has already fallen in a bush from being excited at Elektra’s news and that’s on Archie’s first meeting with her. She comes across as your ditsy, down to earth character, again similar traits to Eualie. Oh Archie and Elektra, there were so right for each other, that it’s awkward both for me and for them, but being an ‘artist’ they really don’t catch a break with each other. But their relationship is just totally adorable, cute and heart-warming it’s hard not to get lost in it.

The mother-daughter duo that is Perdita and Honor, they are the most wonderful of authors as they are people. I haven’t met them (but I hope that will change) but the messages and tweets we share are just so lovely. They really are your down to earth authors and that you can really see from the every word in their book. I think Take Two is their best, I think that their first was amazing but I see such growth and fluidity in their writing but also in each of the character’s development, take for example Eulalie, she is absolutely the most eccentric, loud and sensational woman and possibly a bit bonkers too, but you need that in family don’t you. I just loved when she came into the story, she just makes you laugh so much, it almost makes you take a step back and see a different perspective in life. She is also got quite the infectious personality too.
Waiting for Callback: Take Two fills you with so much love and laughter, it will brighten your day. It’s completely catching in this book, there was so many laugh out loud, cringe worthy moment’s your heart just beats that bit faster out of pure joy and happiness for this book.
