When a letter arrives for unhappy but ordinary Harry Potter, a decade-old secret is revealed to him that apparently he’s the last to know. His parents were wizards, killed by a Dark Lord’s curse when Harry was just a baby, and which he somehow survived. Leaving his unsympathetic aunt and uncle for Hogwarts, a wizarding school brimming with ghosts and enchantments, Harry stumbles upon a sinister mystery when he finds a three-headed dog guarding a room on the third floor. Then he hears of a missing stone with astonishing powers which could be valuable, dangerous – or both. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

My Review

I read this when I was 7, that was a long time ago and it took me a year to read a book. I don’t think I had fully come into reading or the type and genre of books I enjoyed. I guess I was still very new to the magical world of reading. I certainly started in a magical world with Harry Potter. But then I only read the first two and I don’t think I fully appreciated the brilliance that is Hogwarts, and magic. I was in effect a Ruggle – Reading Muggle. Hehe. That’s very bad but it’s what came to mind.

Now Twenty *cough* something, I think I’ve truly enjoyed Harry Potter for what it is, a masterpiece of Children’s Literature. You don’t really need me to tell you what it’s all about as you all know by now, whether you’ve read it or seen it. But there is so much more and here is just a couple of things I noticed: (Spoilers if you haven’t read nor watched it!!!!)

πŸŽ†In the Forbidden Forest, Hagrid takes 4 students for their detention. In the book it was Harry, Hermione, Malfoy and Neville. In the film it was Harry, Hermione, Ron and Malfoy.

πŸŽ†In the trap door, theres a series of traps for Harry to try and get to the Stone first. In the book there’s, Devil’s Snare, The Old Keys, Wizards Chess, and Poison or not Potions. In the film it was just the first three.

πŸŽ†Oh and there’s a librarian called Madam Irma Pince which I never knew nor saw in the film either. Should would’ve been a brilliant character to have more in the films as the library is featured in it so much.

I admit that I did obviously see the films a lot more than reading the books, but then I don’t regret reading them now when I find little things that makes it all the more magical. I know a film can’t possible include every single detail of the book either, it just lends more imagination and perspective of the book.

So are you a Ruggle, do you need to read the books again or read them for the first time (I highly doubt that!) I’ll be interested to know.
