Author – H.D. Gordon
Genre – Paranormal Romance

I have to admit this is another book from the Kindle Store recommended to me from purchasing The Vampire Manifesto. Just from the look of the cover, I would imagine, like yourselves that you may disregard the book, and give it a chance to read it, that’s what I did until I read the synopsis.

Alexa Montgomery is not an ordinary teenager as much as she wants to be – she has more strength, agility and stamina than anyone else. She has a little sister Nelly who she protects with her life. Her ordinary life starts and ends at school where she has her best friend Jack. When she is at home, her mum trains her to become this warrior which descends throughout her family history. Alexa only realises this when her home is attacked by Lamias, which are a mixture of breeds but prey on blood and more specifically Nelly’s. Alexa fights yet when she protects Nelly she loses her mother (?). Jack is more than just a human, he’s a werewolf, and Nelly is a Searcher, she is able to search people and their souls, though she is also part Lamia which tries to keep invisible to the public. Her mother prepared them; they had to travel to seek answers… Alexa is a Sun Warrior the last of her species, she learns this from a friend of their mothers, who directs them to Two Rivers, in New Jersey where they teach and train the various species, Brocken (Blood drinkers/ kind of vampire), Wolf-born, and Searcher. What she finds is not what she expected… she is treated with so much respect from other s and belonging to somewhere, that she can create something of a future. What she doesn’t expect to find is a dark warrior named Kayden, that she is very much attracted to yet she doesn’t know whether to trust him. But it doesn’t always run that smoothly surely… not when Alexa stumbles upon some dark secrets…

I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it resembles a similar plot and storyline to the Vampire Academy novel by Richelle Mead; they are an incredible series that I read a coulple of years back when I started embracing the Dark Romance genre after Twilight. This particular novel highlights the particular characters Rose and Dimitri of the Vampire Academy, and I loved those characters and their personalities throughout the whole series.

Alexa is typical paranormal romance character, she is alone and she feels different from everyone else. She protects her sister because that is her duty and becomes very attached to a dark yet very attractive guy that helps and saves her throughout the novel. It’s the classic cliché of ‘head over heels in love’. In comparison to Rose, she is a warrior who has train to become the Princess’s guardian by training with Dimitri, a guardian himself, who has trouble holding keeping his feeling to himself. What I loved about her character was that she is the heroine of the novel, yet like any teenager you become attached to the character that you want to be, which for me is, Alexa. She alone, yet she knows when she belongs somewhere and she encounters new emotions of which she never she could ever feel; love, happiness and friendship.

I pick Kayden as my next character because of his persona, and because he is the guy that Alexa is attracted too. Kayden is known as Libra, again the last of his species and he feels tied to Alexa in some way. It said in history books that the Sun Warrior and the Libra belong together because they create balance. He longs for her, but other disruptions come between them. Kayden also has a way of pushing people away and protecting the persona he shows in public. Kayden very much compare Dimitri with his character profile and his feelings for Alexa. Dimitri was the guardian that trained and protected Rose; he showed the odd touch and kind words to show what he is really feeling on the inside, leaving the female character feeling weakened and strange butterflies in her stomach.

This book I loved and I would very much recommend to any Vampire Academy fans and readers, I thoroughly enjoyed the emotions that I felt, the ups and downs, the awes and the ‘oh knows’, that showed with every turn of the page and a book that I couldn’t put out for long. Applause for H.D. Gordon, an author I give high recommendations to whom I have never come across on the genre of Paranormal Romance/YA novels.

This sounds fantastic! I believe I already have this waiting for me on my kindle, so it's a question of when I will be able to get around to it. You had me at the mention of Vampire Academy. I love that series! 🙂 Great review!

    • Thanks. If you have it waiting on your Kindle, then I would so recommend reading it. Though obviously it depends on how much you have got to read and everything. I know the feeling, I have so much to catch-up on with YA books. 🙁 I would say that I would give The Vampire Academy 5-Stars obviously, its not better than Vampire Academy, but its pretty close!(hence the 4-Stars) 🙂 Thanks!
