HELLO, I’M EMMA. I’m a UK book blogger, YA reader, Secondary School Librarian and coffee lover. Welcome to my corner of the internet, Never Judge a Book by its Cover. This blog was established in 2012 to review YA books. Since then it’s become a hub of book recommendations, author interviews, and in 2024 I will be starting my own YA book club. For me it’s seeing my review on the back of a book. For one of my favourite book Thorn by @booksbyintisar . I never knew I was on the back until I found a copy on the library. It’s a series I still need to complete but Thorn is amazing of you haven’t read it already.

I finished this on my holiday week and I genuinely loved it so much. Why do you ask…

👑 The writing, the world building and escapism of the world Holly creates. It’s the beauty and simplicity of the Faerie world that we as readers never want to leave.
👑It’s magical in every sense of the word. It’s Elfhame!
👑It’s the laughter, the love and smiles we endure when we get to know character. Especially cheeky ones like Oak.
👑Following our beloved characters Jude and Carden 🥰

I went on holiday by the sea the last 4 days and I read and read and absolutely loved it. I read z the Prisoners Throne ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (thank you for the review copy @hotkeybooks )

Yesterday was a gorgeous day and I started The Reappearance of Rachel Price. There is something about the sounds of the waves and sea that is just so relaxing. It was much needed.

Tomorrow I’m going away for a few days by the sea and I’m excited so I thought a little themed post on all the amazing books set at sea whether that’s fantasy or thriller.

#AD Have you read a book written in verse?

I have read a couple but none are quite like books by Sarah Crossan. Reading verse books is like a whole new perspective on storytelling, you can be immersed in one sitting unable to really. If you haven’t read a verse novel, then I would start with Sarah Crossan. It will change your reading experience completely. The art of creating a story and these emotions in so little words is truly mesmerising and inspiring. Sarah Crossan is an inspiring writer.

It’s Sarah’s latest YA, Where the Heart Should Be is an impactful and emotional love story set in the time and tragedy of the Irish Famine. It gives hope in time that there wasn’t. Sarah’s writing is lyrical, heartfelt but most of all touching. To the reader, to the characters and to bring such a story to life. The love story is beautiful and meaningful and brought me to tears, it’s impossible not to. 5 stars.
